Nathan FosterRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeHi Bob, medium is as low as these go.I put together a similar set up not too long ago, worked a treat. if you need more height at the comb of your butt stock, a cheek wallet from Reloaders supplies is a cheap and simple fix (and the zip pocket is good to store drop charts). |

Bob MavinRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeThanks Nathan.Im about to buy a new Sightron S111 3.5-10x44 LRMD/CM scope, marked down because its all in mils, I cant see a problem with that. Would you recommend that scope for a hunting rifle? Hope it has turret covers. Ive had nothing to do with sightron, never even seen one so its a bit daunting. Thanks for your help mate. I'm enjoying your book. Bob |

Nathan FosterRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeHi Bob, it will be fine for hunting. As you will have read, I prefer MOA units and yards as opposed to working in metric. reasons are given in the book. Nevertheless, the Milradian SIII models are true to metric so as long as you use software that gives come ups in centremetres, or can learn how to convert MOA to CM in Microsoft Excel, you will be able to set the scope up for long range work. Best to go completely with metric if going this way- including a metric rangefinder. The model you have purchased has exposed turrets. |

Bob MavinRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeThanks NathanFull metric is no problem, I've been using a Swarovski with centimeter clicks & range finder in meters. Its my first scope with tactical type turrets, they look venerable without caps . He also has a SIII 10x42MMD it has turret caps, maybe I should go with that? Cheers Bob |

Nathan FosterRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeThe exposed turrets are fine. It is just a matter of keeping an eye on them, checking once in a while when you are walking/stalking.I would not go for a fixed 10 power- but that is entirely your choice. You may have to decide to get what you need as opposed to buying what is on special. This may simply mean saving for a while longer. It took me a long time to get that Practical rifle together. If you look at the original photos, I had a cheap Leupold scope on it with retrofitted target turrets (which weren't true to MOA), plus I had a cheap cast base/ring set. |

Bob MavinRe: Mount hieght for 44mm scopeThanks NathanI'll stay with the S111 3.5-10x44 LRMD/CM . The mil clicks are coarse but marked down to $535 is good buying I think, and I'm already set up for full metric. I took your advice and ordered the Burris Zee rings with the inserts so its all go! My good friend & one of Australias best gunsmiths RTM rifles is going to fit a Maddco 30-06 cal barrel to an older Rem 700 & HS stock. Im thinking of having the barrel length 22.5 the same as my existing 30-06 as its a walk around hunting rifle. I have another 28 barrel thats been fitted to this action that I can switch if needed. Thanks for all your advice mate Bob |
