David LandwehrI love my sightrons but it seems they are not up to the recoil of the 375HH. I had a SIII 1-7×24 that lasted less than 20 rounds before something let go inside the scope.Cudos to Sightron it was replaced with a 1-7x24 stac (siii was no longer made) despite me putting heavy ring marks in the tube. I learned from mistakes and lapped the rings but the S-Tac has lasted less than 30 rounds and has suffered what appears a similar failure. Its not sent back yet. I plan on asking for a SIII 3.5-10 mill dot for a 308 as a replacement. I'll let you know how I go. The SIII 1-7 version was special because it had 5" of eye relief which makes mounting on my Ruger No.1 easier. Most scopes can't be set back far enough due to ring position and you end up crawling the stock to get a decent eye picture Any suggestions on what to replace it with. ? |

Mike RRe: Sightron failuresYou arent over torquing the rings are you? What are you using to torque them up. Are the rings/ bases aligned correctly.lf you wanted a tough scope it used to be Leupold. But some of them have been a bit fragile lately apparently. It seems a bit pot luck, but Im guessing something isnt right with your mounting |

David LandwehrRe: Sightron failuresMike, the first time with the SIII I probably over torqued but when unmounted the scope tube measured round so not excessively over torqued. The ruger rings were terrible. I assumed being a good brand they would be good but they were high on the edges of the rings so they dug into the tube. The second time prior to mounting the STac I mounted the rings and lapped them on the rifle so they are definitely aligned. I torqued up with the short side of the Allen key to ensure I didn't over torque them. |

Ben LawRe: Sightron failuresnot good news there david, this is the first time i can recall reading of failures in s3's or s-tac's. ive just bought a s-tac for a 30-06 hopefully i dont have the same problem. |

Martin TaylorRe: Sightron failuresIt seems some of the later Sightrons may have some issues indeed.Had a S-tac 4-20 fail on my 30-06 bit over a year ago. It was mounted on a 223 for ? rounds with no ring marks though had been used in the field Varminting. It was then fitted to my Howa 06 in Burris Extreme rings and failed within 15 shots. Even though it was out of warranty I sent it to the OZ Importer because curiosity got the better of me. l wanted to know why it had failed. Without my knowledge they sent it back to the US, had it repaired, returned and sent my shop the bill for all the freight. Can't tell you what the fix was no info was offered. It's now mounted on my win mag waiting to be sighted and that should test it out flinging the 208-210 grain pills! I know Nathan & Steph have had excellent results using all the Sightron series on just about every calibre class with few if any failures. |

Ben LawRe: Sightron failuresmartin, what was the failure, not holding zero? do you know if they repaired your scope or sent you a new one? |

Martin TaylorRe: Sightron failuresSomething was floating around in the sight picture Ben covering a crest shape area. Didn't seem to loose zero but lining up shots was almost impossible as it would change position every time.Definitely repaired my unit. |

Warwick MarflittRe: Sightron failuresA set of vernier peep sights might be the answer? |

David LandwehrRe: Sightron failuresWell its on its way back to the US for review. There were some marks from where it had slipped in the rings but nothing terrible. The rings were tight so that will be the next thing to fix when I re-scope it.One thing that annoyed me is the Aus importer made me pay for freight. While I know its their policy it sh!ts me as this is the second time I've had to pay it. Let's see what they say but with current freight times it could be weeks away. Warwick older eyes and peep sights probably not the best choice for me. |

David LandwehrRe: Sightron failuresWell Sightron are coming to the party and are replacing my scope for the second time. They have agreed to give me something different so I've asked for a 3.5-10×44 LRMD for my 308. They are trying to find stock now. I can't complain about that service so I still love sightrons. |

David LandwehrRe: Sightron failuresThe 3.5-10 LRMD arrived yesterday. The centre of the reticle is not as heavy as I would like but I still think it will be very usable. The glass is very clear, as expected. Its also not too fussy on the paralax setting. Nice one Sightron. Thank you. |
