Ed StewartI have a model 700 varmint with 2 piece Warne bases on it. I would like to change them for a one piece rail but when I tried fitting a EGW rail it raised the scope height by 5 to 6mm. Is there a rail that is about the same height as the Warne bases or would I have to change to low mount rings if I fitted a rail to keep a similar scope height. Thanks, Ed. |

Nathan FosterRe: Low height railHi Ed, have you tried the Warne rail? You will find that this is also kicked up a touch at the rear because it is a canted base. Weaver also make a one piece rail (non canted) which is fairly low. Just try to avoid their extended base. If you do end up with an extended base, you may have to cut a couple of inches off the front. If you get stuck, phone Dan at reloaders Supplies. Dan is very good at matching bases and rings. |

Ed StewartRe: Low height railThanks Nathan, it is hard to tell how high the bases are without being able physically compare them. Will try find some time to ring reloaders this week. |

Ed StewartRe: Low height railSo Dan was kind enough to measure the 3 rails and email the heights through to me:EGW 14.5mm Weaver 11.4mm Warne 10.7mm Other then the height is there any other major difference between the Weaver and Warne? Because the Weaver is $89 and Warne is $199 so the price is rather different. Maybe I am missing something? Both are 20MOA |

David BathRe: Low height railThat is great service, I wish I knew someone in Australia who spent time helping like that.I believe the weaver rails are alloy and warne are steel? That would somewhat explain the price difference if I am correct. You should check though....... I am not 100% certain. |

Nathan FosterRe: Low height railAs David said, Warne are steel and Weaver are aluminium. I have never had a problem with Weaver aluminium bases, they are very strong. Either base is fine. |
