Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC

Has anyone had hands on experience with these binocular/range finders? I believe the range finder is pretty good but the optics not so good. Are they worth $1000 Australian?
I need a range finder and binoculars without having to sell my rifles to pay for them. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Wayne.

Re: Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC
Hi Wayne
I was in a hurry when I left the previous post.

I use the Bushnell fusion 1600 RF binoculars. I'm very happy with them, much better than carrying two items. I know I've ranged to 1200m, I haven't tried any to range any further. The optics are better than the one the mile version. Optics are not perfect but plenty good enough for the job. I only notice because I'm comparing them to the very best binoculars. Having the binoculars & rangefinder in one unit is the best thing I ever did. There's a new pair on eBay.
I use them with a S4 lockdown harness

It's the best harness I've used. Blackfoot camo make a very good harness too.

Cheers
Bob

I'm also looking at getting a set of fusions.
Bob are you saying the old model (1600 with red button) has better optics than the new version (1 mile orange button) or have I got it wrong and it's two different models?

Re: Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC
It is great to have the combination of good optics and reliable ranging.
Just remember that on some days even your NewCon Optik 22,000 meter laser range finder will not get you adequate data for a long shot.

I would go with the 1600 and/or scimp a bit on the rangefinder and put the pennies you save away for a thorough course on the use of mildot reticle ranging in combination with a good scope with very good optics.

I am lucky to have a lot of both as well as higher end survey instruments I can use if needed, and have settled on depending more on the scope and less on weather conditions that mess things up.

Mill dot ranging is all very good provided you know the exact height of your target animal not very handy for a stag that looks bigger than it is cos of a small rack

Re: Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC
Right you are. I do know however that the better laser rangefinders will not give you happiness in bad climatic conditions.

Shot a wolf this year on which my Swarovski bionoc/rangefinder would just not give a timely reading while he was watching me. Little time left to use the dots so guessed It was around 400 to 450 out, and had begun scampering to get to bushes close by. Tried for a straight-away head/neck shot and the A-Max hit just below the base of the tail and forward then out the base of the neck. There was no point skinning it as the bullet opened up the entire spine area and ruined the pelt. Just 5 inches higher hold would have worked fine.

Tried the rangefinder afterwards in the blowing snow for awhile and it just was not working that day. Works well with decent weather and time to use it. So too (normally) will the mildots. I found I often hunt the same areas year after year, and know fence post heights, snag widths and other items that might help at some point. You are right though, it is never overly simple or easy especially at longer ranges but that is part of the challenge we face.

Re: Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC
Hi Chris
Yes, the old 1600 has better optics but the range finder wouldn't go to 1600yds reliably. Mine does 1200m easily. The newer 1 mile has a better range finder goes to a mile but I'd get the old 1600 unit.

I have had a pair of Fusion 1600 for quite some years now. I find the range finder excellent and the optics adequate. I have found the battery life to be also be great. And this is comparing them to my Leica Geovid HD-B that are far more $$$$$$$

Re: Bushnell Fusion 1 mile ARC
Iv got some. Going by other posts I guess mine are the old type. Red button. Mine are the higher magnification. 12x50? Any way there pretty good. Not that iv used any higher quality name brands. The built in ballistic data is shit. Or at least doesn't match any rifle I have close enough. They show the look angle tho. And beat two separate items to find and range. I got mine second hand which saved a bit.
