Ben GradyHi GuysI am looking at purchasing a none expensive spotting scope. For checking out animals in more detail than with my 10x42 bino's. Am thinking in the $500-$700. Wondering if angled or straight s better for a hunting situation. Uncle Nick said in an article that he prefers angled for the range and straight for hunting. Having never used one I need your opinions. I am having a weeks holiday at Hanmer Springs and fancy sitting on the deck looking for game in the near by mountains and my local hunting block always has game in the neighbours property 500-1000yards away across the gully that I enjoy watching. I see the Redfield straight 20x60x60 is $399.00 at the moment. Do you think that would suffice my needs. Cheers Ben |

Bob MavinRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straightHi BenI prefer the straight ones for hunting. When you find game its easier to look over the top of the s/scope to work out where the game is. Bob |

chris murphyRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straightI'm running a leupold 15-45 angled I prefer the angled because Its better for looking up hill especially when tahr hunting and when looking across or down your tri pod doesn't have to be as high so not so affected by wind. I got mine out of the states through eBay can't remember how much but it was $200 cheaper than punching and kicking (hunting and fishing) price |

Ben GradyRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straightOk so that's 1 vote for each. Has any one used both? If so what is your preference?Would the straight Redfield 20x60x60 do the job? $399 vs Leupold 15x45 angled $699 No one seems to have the Redfield angled in NZ. Chris, I will check out E-bay. |

Ben GradyRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straightJust ordered the Redfield Rampage 20x60x80 Angled Spotting Scope from the USA. I'm not going to be lugging it up hills, my bino's will do for hunting. But I will keep the spotting scope in my truck for a bit of fun.I told my wife I was going to take it into the hanmer hot pools with us for the day, because I would then be quite happy spending all day in there scoping the hills for game. She said that was dodgy and I might be arrested. I can't see the problem. |

chris murphyRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straightHow much did you save getting from the states? And I'm failing to see wat is dodgy about that a large lensed camera pointed at the adjacent pool could be dodgy |

Ben GradyRe: Spotting Scope- angled or straight$384.90 US Dollar landed in NZ in about a week. Couldn't get an angled redfield in NZ. 20x60x80 power.Probably wont get heaps of use (apart from at the hot pools) so didn't want to go overboard with the cost. |
