john feyereisnI have found a couple scopes pretty deeply discounted that would fit my needs but i do not have experiance with either of them. One is a weaver super slam 2-10x42 the other is a sightron s2 big sky 3-9x42. I have heard good things about the sightron but have never had the opportunity to look through one much less shoot a rifle with one, i am considering the weaver because i was pretty impressed with the higher power grand slam i have on another rifle, considering the price. i am sure it is no nightforce, however i am not on a nightforce budget. It will be on a deer rifle that gets used at very short ranges out to about 350 yds. The minimum power of 2 on the weaver would appeal to me for a wider field of view for very close shots, which do happen where i hunt.Hopefully someone has some experiance with one or both of these, if so i would thank you very much. |

Thomas KitchenRe: Sightron s2 big sky compared to weaver super slamhi john.i haven't use a weaver i do know a guy that loves his one but he decided to get it rather then a leupold he was looking at in the same price range. on the sightron website they don't list a bigsky in 3-9 only a s2 so please check that it is a s2 bigsky not just a s2 (confusing i know not sure why they didnt extend it to s1 s2 s3 and s4) the s2 i believe are made in philipines and the bigsky are made in a japan. i have a bigsky 4-16x42md i have been really impressed with it so far still got a lot to learn about getting the most out of it. only thing i find a little annoying is the adjustable objective but getting use to that. you can send it to there custom shop and get the parralax fixed to a range you decide on if need be. (might be helpful to know if your reading this Dan) i also own a sightron rimfire and thats a good scope, i don't think ill be buying anything but sightrons for a while |

john feyereisnRe: Sightron s2 big sky compared to weaver super slami beleive the 3-9 big sky is discontinued, presumably why it has been discontinued. i ended up going with the weaver mostly because of the lower power minimum available. i should have the scope next week, i will just have to wait and see how i like it |

Warwick MarflittRe: Sightron s2 big sky compared to weaver super slamYes low power is awesome. I have a 1-4 X 24 NXS NP 1 NIGHTFORCE scope and up close with no magnification it's unbeatable with both eyes open! The best $2k I ever spent. I've paid less for a car in the past. Lol. But I got my Night force. |

john feyereisnRe: Sightron s2 big sky compared to weaver super slamWarwick, with the low power but the small objectave lens dia (24mm? correct?) how is that scope in low light? for me that is a big consideration. i have seen alot of guys carrying scopes like that but have never owned or used one. |

Warwick MarflittRe: Sightron s2 big sky compared to weaver super slamJohn I forgot to add that it has an Illuminated recticle. It's an amazing scope for close up work. I think special forces use them for street fighting and room to room "here have some lead in ya ribs" work! I shot a Sika running full speed @ 30yrds as she ran across a small creek after I spooked her from her sunny spot on the bank. At dawn or dusk its very clear glass helps. It is what it is a close range optic and it fulls that roll well. Cheers |
