Mark WhitakerNathan, have you any experience yet with the new illuminated 1-7?It looks good on paper, but I am worried about its (and other 24mm scopes) ability at night spotlighting? Any thoughts? Regards Mark |

Nathan FosterRe: Sightron 1-7x24Hi Mark, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.Tough call really, a 4 x 32-42mm objective is optimal for light gathering at night. But- a spot light creates enough light for a smaller 24mm objective to work with optimum efficiency. I don't use illuminated reticles at night when I am spotlighting (possums). There is no need as the spotlight allows for optimum acquisition of the cross hair. So it really comes down to "do I need a compact scope and maximum field of view"? You have to keep in mind that this scope is designed to sit atop an AR as a part of a combat and assault platform. Snap shooting is a key word here. |

Mark WhitakerRe: Sightron 1-7x24Thanks for the quick reply.I have been using a 3-9 Leupold Varix-II for the passed 30 years and it is a good scope but not an "all round" scope. In pig shooting or anywhere in scrub I have wanted a wider field of view. 3x is just too much magnification. With that in mind I bought a Leupold VX-HOG 1-4x20 non illuminated and it works well for close shooting but lacks the illumination for dawn and dusk. Since I acquired a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 with NP2-DD reticle I have found this to be sensational for night, dawn and dusk with the illumination set very low and turned off for all day time work. I would like to get a 1-? with illumination as the Nightfoce is only 3.5x The Leupold 1-4x20 is OK at night at 4x (5mm exit pupil) so a 1-?x24 with 5mm exit pupil will be 4.8x, make it 5x. My choices are: March 1-10x24 Sensational but way too expensive. S&B 1-8x24 See above Swarovski 1-6x24 Perfect, but only slightly cheaper than above Leupold VX-6 1-6x24 Good choice, but not yet imported with illumination Sightron 1-7x24 #1 choice so far. Perfect range for 7mm-08 Nightforce 1-4x24 Price OK but only 4x max, but it has illumination. If only Nightforce made 1-6x28............. Mark |

Matt ReidRe: Sightron 1-7x24It´s a fair bit cheaper than the options mentioned, but I've been using a 2-7x33 Redfield revolution on a bush weapon and it´s worked really well. Good FOV, respectable clarity....and cheap. |

Mark WhitakerRe: Sightron 1-7x24I finally went for a Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32, just arrived, no illumination but no problem picking up targets at dawn and dusk. Not shot with it yet.Reading other posts I have to check the turret accuracy. It has good solid clicks, very positive feel. Whats the best way to check if its inch or moa? Is shooting a group at zero then dialing up say 20, shoot another group and measure the difference, or is there a better way? Mark |
