Lane SalvatoRe: Show your Favorite Knife?Nathan,It's a custom Riflebird that I got from Warrick Edmonds. It's 52100 carbon steel with a budgeroo burl handle. Sharpens like a razor with just a few licks. It's a deadly work of art! I can't wait to try it on an elk or a nilgai. When I first started talking to him I wanted something so large that it may not have been practical, like a large bowie. I also was insistent on stainless. After visiting with him several times, I was able to make a more educated decision. This knife is very light, easy to carry, and more importantly, easy to sharpen in the field. I hunt in mostly arid areas, so stainless wasn't so important as it would be down on the coast. I wasn't happy with the sheath when I first got it because it was so different than what I've carried for years. However, after putting it on and wearing it, the genius of it came out. You can wear it all day and the knife handle never gets in the way of your rifle, sling, binoculars, etc. It's completely out of the way, so you can wear it on either side on your waist. I've been thrilled with this knife, and can't wait to take it out hunting next year. |

Nathan FosterRe: Show your Favorite Knife?Looks almost like a Parkerized finish Kai. That as opposed to blue. I like the way the sheath is set up for a steel. |

Lane SalvatoRe: Show your Favorite Knife? That's a hellacious knife. Looks like a bowie profile. That 52100 sharpens fast doesn't it? I love it. |

Nathan FosterRe: Show your Favorite Knife?Yes, a Bowie. It is not Warrick's favorite profile, I believe this is due to times gone by when the (over polished) Bowie was in all the Hollywood flicks and the basic profile was available in every junk survival shop. But Warrick was willing to make this to my preferred specs to suit my personal wants and needs.Yes, I find this stays sharp well. It steels up fast and I can do over a dozen animals before I have to go back to a diamond or stone for a quick lick. |

Lane SalvatoRe: Show your Favorite Knife? If I'm going to be near a vehicle, I'll use a knife like my Riflebird and just clean it, usually the European method as described in your book.If I'm hoofing it, I prefer more of a bowie or camp type knife just because you can use it for so many different things. Not everyone likes the clip point, but I began with one and am very comfortable with it. |

Mike DavisRe: Show your Favorite Knife?man you fellas make me feel like a peasant...and funnily enough the folding peasant knife is one of my favourites.....just bought a 2nd ,got the mini one to go with the full sized Ive had for a year or so now.... really good steel in them and it holds edge ok and very easy to give quick whick up on the steel when dull. just got given a rehandled gerber sheath knife so might have to make it a decent leather sheath and try it for a while...... |

Warrick EdmondsRe: Show your Favorite Knife?Every now and then, as a knife maker, I come up with one that I'm really happy with, a knife that just makes me smile every time I pick it up. This one came off the bench last week. It's made from acid washed and stonewashed 52100 carbon steel, with a tapered tang, textured ricasso and file work on the spine. The handle is Mexican bocote and New Guinea striped ebony. The sheath has been treated inside with lanolin, neatsfoot oil and waxes, the outside has five different dyes, has been textured and sealed with four coats of gloss. The edges were sealed with gum tragacanth and gloss. For all that though, it's my favourite utility knife to date. Warrick EdmondsRe: Show your Favorite Knife?KaiIt is a spec build that I'll take to the Sydney knife show in August and put on my table for sale. I'm pretty happy with it and might be making some derivations in the not too distant future, depending on how much interest there is. cheers Warrick |

Warrick EdmondsJust making everyone aware of this project, subject of another post on this forumFollowing some discussion on this forum, and in agreement with Nathan, I have embarked on the construction of a stainless steel field-bowie knife for Nathan to trial. The steel of choice is CPMS35VN, the handle will be black. The design will be to Nathan's specs, plus a bit of fiddling by me, which represent a solid working knife, not a safe queen by any stretch.I will be posting regular updates on MY WEBSITE, which can be found at this address; http://www.riflebirdknives.com/nathan_fosters_knife.html Alternatively you can just Google Riflebirdknives or me Warrick Edmonds and follow your nose to the relevant page. I will also be making the occasional post on my Instagram account which is; warrick_at_riflebirdknives. My website page will carry pictures, videos and text describing the process of building the knife, the materials used and links to the maker of the steel. Unfortunately there will be no room for your input on my website however please feel free to hold discussion on this page of Nathan's forum or on my IG posts. The more the merrier. http://www.riflebirdknives.com/nathan_fosters_knife.html |

Lane SalvatoRe: Show your Favorite Knife?I like the drawing and the knife. My preference would be for a longer handle too. If this type of knife is to be appropriate for a stabbing type motion, my preference would lean toward a bolster that's pretty substantial. |

Andrew MurrayRe: Show your Favorite Knife?Well it's my only knife. A cheap one.It needs a proper sharpening but I think it will do the job. The photo is just from the ebay. I have also posted the ebay link in case anyone wants to check it out. Full tang. 440c steel. I need to sharpen up some razors so this is a good opportunity. http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/ELK-RIDGE-SKINNER-HUNTING-KNIFE-SHEATH-EXPRESS-POSTAGE-BOWIE-HUNTING-/271716965187?hash=item3f4397db43%3Ag%3A9YYAAOSwhQhY23w3&_trkparms=pageci%253Aabca94de-5fbc-11e7-8083-74dbd1804d6e%257Cparentrq%253A073c036a15d0a86642a4b7c8fffb9b48%257Ciid%253A3 |
