Warwick MarflittWhat type and length of rope or cord do you carry when your hunting? I take a (15mtr Hank) length of nylon sash cord. Its strong 500kg breaking weight, lite and waterproof. You can use it to light a fire and its not too hard on your hands. You can old school abseil with it and its cheaper than climbing rope..... Very handy stuff.https://thehardwarecompany.co.nz/product/sash-cord/ |

Paul LevermanRe: Enough ropeI'm with you, Warwick. Except I have two rolls, one in the main pack and one for my day pack.Funny you should mention it as fire starter. On one occasion, while working on a moose in knee deep muck, his hoof slipped out of my grasp, kicked me in my pants pocket, and promptly removed my flashlight and sent it into the muck. Very long story short, I lit the cord and carried the lit end about a foot off the ground. It gave off a circle of light about 5 feet in diameter, lighting the trail that would have been impossible to see without it. The drawback: little tiny fires on the ground where the nylon dripped off as it burned. Looked like tiny airstrip landing lights behind me. (They don't burn for long, so all is good.) |
