Hey guys. I was at the engineers getting some steel and sitting on the off cuts rack was a nice 10 inch round by 3/4 inch thick piece of steel plate. I grabbed it and my other bits and $10 for the lot. I have welded some cut chain links to it and painted it white. It's going to be a good ringer

If you can get your hands on some heavy weight conveyer belt material, it has worked better for me than chains which the kids are capable of hitting and breaking them. The conveyer belt rubber seems to hold up better/longer for me.

Re: STEEL GONG
your gongs should be of an abrasion resistant plate with a min BH of 500, especially on heavy calibers. Also place these plates within a bunker with soft dirt back ground min or 6"x6" or bigger timbers. The last thing anyone wants is a stray wondering into a farm house or of other structure that contains life. This information is for those out there that do not know any better of course.

I think car fan belts would be too small in diameter. The conveyor belt rubber comes in all sizes but I cut pieces 6 feet long and 2 to 4 inches wide so I can double them up and put holes in the ends to push bolts through to any length as appropriate to the situation. The stuff I was using is 1/4 inch thick.
