Bryan WebsterIt was a 3 year old bull centre of mass shot six inches below his chin from 150 yards. He was laying down at a slight angle and the bullet entered and tore the top off his lung then exited through a rib (wrecked some meat). All in all id say it performed admirably. He jumped up, spun and fell down and never got up or even tried to. Rifle was a 20 inch barelled.308 Browning X-Bolt with a stiff load of a 165 grain Hornady SST bullet that has always shot well under 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. One happy boy. |

Bryan WebsterRe: Grandson's first mooseMy youngest son's daughter shot a darned nice big whitetail last evening. It was a 150 meter broadside shot quartering a tiny bit away. with the .308 Win 165 grain SST, the bullet went in, tore the lungs up pretty well and exited through the scapula on the opposite side of the deer, taking a rib with it and messing up the shoulder a bit. The deer ran 30 meters and piled up. One very happy gal. She shot one last year with the same .308 and same type of bullet that dropped it on the spot but that was a small one that had been facing her dead on. I think her dad is going to have to buy her a rifle of her own now, not to mention paying the taxidermy fees! |
