Shawn BevinsMy son took a birthday buck on Dec 5th. For a 2nd year in a row we took a decent Whitetail buck from the same hide at the same distance as last year. My son had been shooting gongs out to 300 yds this past summer but put the gun away in late summer. Deer season was coming to an end and he was saying he needed to get out and tag one. He hunted pretty hard on the 5th. I had told him earlier that I was seeing deer in the barway at the end of our hay field at dusk. A blind is set up overlooking a swamp and the hayfield. The farthest shot would be a little over 260 yds. His gun is a 257 Roberts Encore with a 26" MGM barrel with 115gr Partitions sighted in for 200yds. At 4:20 I heard the shot.. a short while later, I got a text stating he would be late for dinner. The shot was 254 yds, hit a little further back than I would have liked but the deer dropped after walking less than 30 ft. The hole going in is 1" the hole going out was 2". Bruising was phenomenal. Lungs were destroyed. Chest cavity was full of blood. Very little meat loss. Deer weighed 170 dressed. If a gun shoots a partition bullet well, it is my first choice here in the Northeast. Shots can be 20 yds or 250yds.[/img]https://i.imgur.com/2UWs1vK.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/8spAZG9.jpg[img] |
