Lane SalvatoI was able to take a pronghorn on a hunt in the Texas Panhandle which is a rare treat. Land owner tags are given out by the state and they are very hard to get. I lucked into one and was able to go. The tags were held by a guide so I hunted with a group of nice fellows. The shot was 420 yards which was my longest yet. I was instructed to put my left hand under the buttstock and I instructed the guide that I hold the fore-end. The shot was low but completely lethal. Front of the front leg. The lessons learned from Nathan work in real hunts whether you have a lot of time to aim and adjust or whether it's a fast paced pressure situation. If you use the principles he gives in his books and practice them, they work. I think part of it is the confidence that comes with practice and knowing what works and what doesn't. So I guess the conclusion is, practice Nathan's techniques, learn about bullets, and keep hold of the fore-end! |

VinceRe: Pronghorn in the FreezerHi LaneCongratulations on the shot and the pronghorn, love to see a picture. More importantly, what did you end up choosing in terms of facial hair, hats and tattoos to get the job done! Cheers Vince |

Lane SalvatoRe: Pronghorn in the FreezerVince, excellent questions all. I find posting a photo to this site the equivalent of hacking into a nuclear submarine computer so that may not happen. However, the facial hair was "I don't have time to shave this morning", the hat was "I can't afford to get skin cancer again so I don't car what I look like hat", and the tats were non-existent because when was a kid the only people that got tattoos were bikers and sailors. I do have a scar from where a doctor slit my throat one time. Sadly he used a stitch that healed really well so I kind of have to point it out to people for them to see it.It was a fun hunt though! |

Lane SalvatoRe: Pronghorn in the FreezerThis pronghorn was taken in Texas at approximately 420 yards with a 28 Nosler using a 193 grain Berger bullet. This bullet is really risky for a light animal in a rifle caliber with such momentum. I couldn't use one of my rifles because I was traveling and had to use what was available. |

VinceRe: Pronghorn in the FreezerAwesome Photos Lane, thanks for unravelling the mysteries of posting pics so we can see what you get up to. Also thanks for indirectly pointing out that Sendero has a meaning outside of Remington rifles, embarrassed to admit it had never occurred to meCheers Vince |
