Lane SalvatoRe: Desert Mule Deer with 270Josh, they tend to live in pockets near me and most of the land here is private so it depends on where you are hunting as to food sources. This deer was living in playa basins on a large ranch and grazing a large wheat field adjacent. I was hunting there because it was the only place where I had permission to hunt that had mule deer near it. The season was only a week so I had to bet that if I was there I would eventually see one.In western Texas they actually stalk them, following them in the sandhills on foot. Over there they eat a lot of Shinery Oak. That may be a slang name but that's what we call it. It has a lot of nutritional value and they get big. This deer while wonderful was by no means the largest taken in the area. |
