Scott StruifTo US hunters, the meat-saver shot is the best, the heart shot being the crème de la crème.But heres a video made in USA that clearly demonstrates why its not. https://youtu.be/EXD6RzKtEVg |

Rob BirdRe: Heart shotIf I'm not mistaken, the first shot wasn't actually a heart shot but rather a low lung shot. Or so the anatomical model would suggest. Secondly, he's using hollow points. What are the expansion characteristics, if any, under 2000 fps through largely soft tissue? |

Scott StruifRe: Heart shotHi Rob. I took their word it was a heart shot, although it looked low to me, too. You proved the effectiveness of the heart shot on your elk, recently. I accidentally shot a deer in the heart at long range. It walked 30 yards, like it hadnt been hit, and fell over. Their choice of bullet was odd. The ELD-M like you used would be the sensible choice for any meat-saver shot. I thought the video was worthwhile because it showed the effectiveness of incapacitating the animal, making tracking unnecessary and retrieval easier. Plus, if you aim for the shoulder, youve got quite a bit of leeway, left and right to still make a lethal hit. |
