Cor NepgenHi All,I don't post much but read most of what's put on here, wasn't quite sure where to post this so I figured this was a safe option... I've seen a couple of times people getting annoyed with import costs and the exchange rate (me being one of them, I think we are sitting somewhere between 14 and 15 ZAR to the USD). But I've become sort of used to this and it has given so much more of an appreciation for the advice both here on the forum and in the book series. Some of what I appreciate and value most of the books is the holistic approach dealing with everything and explaining how its connected. That way you can make informed decisions and spend money where its needed and save where possible. It took quite a while and many people on here contributed with advice and encouragement but finally I've got my rifle set up in a way that I'm rather happy with. Its a Remington M700 sps chambered in .30 06 with NF base, rings and a 5-20 SHV. Went shooting the other day with factory Federal 180grain and best grooming I got was 2 holes cutting one another and one about ,5'' away (my fault). So thanks to all for this forum that gives loads to read and often a good laugh. Also a huge thanks to Nathan for the way the books are done and the lack of sugar coating. Love the straight up approach. Especially the way the books help you to help yourself and do lots yourself. Huge thanks to all. Cor |

Paul LevermanRe: Appreciation for the budget approachHi Cor - not sure how I missed your post, probably has a lot to do with the dinosaur shit on my boots. Yes, I have to agree with you completely. The wealth of knowledge here, that is so freely shared, is astounding. I've been on dozens of other forums and they all end the same way. Somehow the trolls get in and the whole thing goes to hell. TBR is a breath of fresh air in the gun world. I think the two major contributing factors are the amount of effort that Nathan puts into it, and the willingness of the members to listen to good advice. Another being the sharing of stories and experiences from the real world, not some dandy that shoots what the factory sends him and then sells 350 words to Gunz-R-Us magazine. Now, if we could only clone Nathan..... |

Nathan FosterRe: Appreciation for the budget approachHi Cor, really good to hear about your progress.Lately I have found it hard. On the one hand, I have manufacturers / shooting schools contact me wanting my seal of approval for products and methods I do not condone. So I say what I have to say and cut myself out of yet another opportunity. Some complain when I do not give a product or super duper bullet the good reviews wanted. In each case, I am supposed to give. Give a tick, approval, whatever. None of these people offer to give anything in return, such as- yes, we will give that bullet design idea a try. So it is all one way energy which is immensely draining. baby birds sqwarking for worms. Now I am back in heavy research mode. Those of you who have my books and have read them, have what you need for now. Many baby birds will see their mail deleted. I will not even get to read these, Steph will delete many. My current work requires very intense focus. I can only give so much. Your kind words help a great deal during these times. The budget approach is not just about saving money. It is about economy of mind, function and simplicity of design. In days gone by, gun and bullet companies made what they considered to be the best for the hunter. These days it is often what is best for the shareholder. These are very challenging times. |

Cor NepgenRe: Appreciation for the budget approachHi All,Yes Paul, I cannot agree with you more. Most forums and discussions I come across tends to become more of a pissing contest than actually helping one another. Nathan, really good you have lost of research to do, not so good about the approach from manufacturers. I always get annoyed when someone asks me an opinion on something already bought. I mean, it's a bit late to ask for an opinion now isn't it! haha Ethics are always a sticky topic, in our office we also run into some projects that morally and ethically one does not want to be a part of... But always a difficult thing, especially when theres not a whole lot of work in. Trying things.. I really think you have a legacy in the books and here on the forum. You have over the years helped a bunch of us who still hang around here, offering advice and opinions where possible. Hopefully some of these companies will get their priorities straight and involve you in the research and development phase. All the best! |
