Lane SalvatoThe hurricane along the Texas Gulf Coast stranded thousands of people, and many had to be rescued by boat. It's been amazing to see how many people just hitched on to their hunting boats, fishing boats, and ski boats, drove down to the water, and started helping people.God only knows how many people were saved by private citizens just trying to help. One of my friend went down over the weekend and he said that the currents generated by the flooding rivers, even far away from the channel were unpredictable and treacherous. He also said that because so many flooded neighborhoods were landlocked, the various government and law enforcement agencies used helicopters to get people out. So the entire time he was in his boat, military helicopters were flying overhead. He said that was a bit intimidating until he got used to it, which didn't take long. Hats off to all the rescuers but especially, the "random dude in a bass boat" type. Those guys are one of a kind and there are a lot of them. |
