Creature of Habit

Andrew Murray

This morning I noticed my right index finger was quite swollen. It had become infected under the cuticle, not in the side like a normal infected finger nail so it's quite tender and painful. I decided to lance the nail which was very painful. Using a number of tools I managed to punch a hole through. Before all that however I wanted to compare its size to my other index finger.

It's a thing i do regularly. If my knee d a bit swollen I compare it to the other. If my right arm is sunburnt I compare it to the left and so on and so forth.

Out bodies being somewhat symmetrical makes it convenient to compare damage or change with the corresponding part, if my eye is itchy I can look in the mirror and compare to other one and see if it is red or swollen.

So of course I woke up and went to compare he swelling in my right index finger to the left.

The right has a bandaid on it now. But here it is.

Re: Creature of Habit
So I went to compare my right to my left and was confronted with this

Even though my finger has been missing for 10.5years I still managed to bring it up for a comparison. I was also taken a back. It is the first time in a very long time that I simply did not remember it was gone.

Amazing how much we operate out of habit without much thinking!

Andrew brew up some black tea and soak your infected finger in it. I had a rather rough cat a few years ago. Scratty was her name an amazing feline. She had scratched the crap out of my hand play fighting and as cat scratches do they were red and sore a few hours after. As I made a cuppa before putting in the milk I removed the teabag and as I did the milk something said to use the now not too hot tea bag on my scratches....... Wow! Instantly the stinging went away and the redness was gone in a few hours the next day they were dry scabs and forgotten. Now if I get blackberry, cable tie ends (I'm an auto sparky) cat or any ugly scratches or small cuts I tea bag them. ..
