Warwick MarflittHey guys. One of my other hobbies/habits is picking up an old broken axe or rusty axe head and giving it aSecond chance at life. I came across this article on axes and decided to share with you as the tone for sharing skills and learning is quite refreshing and the other axe article in this ones just as good. So happy reading. http://www.robin-wood.co.uk/wood-craft-blog/2010/12/14/how-to-make-a-new-axe-handle/ https://www.motherearthnews.com/diy/how-to-make-an-axe-zmaz05fmzsel#axzz30wPUIFE5 A Handmade Life: In Search of Simplicity |

Paul LevermanRe: Axes fitting handles and rejuvenating an old neglected toolMy father-in-law claimed that his carpenter's hammer/axe/saw/any tool with a wooden handle, was a "family heirloom" and that the handle had been replaced twice and the head, three times. |

Andrew MurrayRe: Axes fitting handles and rejuvenating an old neglected toolI'll get some photos soon... I do this with old straight razors. Those antique-age blades are top notch. English and German steel that is still on the money. Some of my blades are over 100 years old, one I am working on may be even older still. At their youngest they are well over 60 since that's when the company went out of business. Photos soon. |

PJ MyersRe: Axes fitting handles and rejuvenating an old neglected toolI did this with an old Keen Kutter ax that was my grandfathers. I dont think it was that old (50s) but it was an enjoyable project and it came out pretty good. Like Andrew I have revived a some old razors, typically Wostenholms or Wade & Butchers-they dont make steel like that anymore and it is a joy to work with. I like pre WW 2 Marbles knives the best though. There is something really satisfying about bringing one of them back into the game and the carbon steel that went into them is my favorite. Ive got an old Remington-UMC I like a lot as well. Putting something that old back in to use is really satisfying to me, I wish old knives and old guns could talk, Id love to hear their stories |

Warwick MarflittRe: Axes fitting handles and rejuvenating an old neglected toolYeah it I'd be better than watching tv. Funny how new axes are a third the size and half the weight of Granddads axe! They don't have the punch needed to split wood with the required violent authority. I'm looking for a deserted island to retreat to with My old stuff that works and living a life full of the things that matter and make life more fun than death and taxes! |
